Sturgis South 2008...sort of

When Jeff and I moved to Mississippi in 2004, we rented a wonderful older home in the tiny community of Sturgis. We loved how quiet and slow everything was there...except during the third weekend in August. The little community of less than 400 becomes the temporary home of over 20,000 bikes and bikers during Sturgis South. It's crazy!

Now that we live 20 minutes away, we still get to enjoy a little taste of the rally when the bikers make their dinner ride through Louisville. People line the streets to wave and see all the bikes. We decided to take Riley to see the parade yesterday and were lucky enough to enjoy the festivities from the front yard of Roy King and Kathy Humphries. He got a little impatient and we had to pull out the snacks but once the bikes arrived, there was no distracting him.

Abbie, who keeps Riley for us sometimes, took him out near the road when they arrived and he was mesmerized. He was so still and occasionally waved as they rode by. One biker apparently thought he was so adorable that he threw Riley his whole stash of beads! Ok. It might have been the fact that he was sitting in Abbie's lap!

The 20 minute parade is much more enjoyable than the three-day invasion we once experienced...
